So yesterday for my DE English III class we had to write a poem. It could have either been based off of Carl Sandburg's "Chicago" or T. S. Elliot's "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock". So I am sitting at home thinking 'hmm, do I want to do a Love Song type poem or a poem about the city I live in?'. Well, I get to class today and, lo and behold, I am literally the ONLY one out of probably forty students who did the Love Song type poem. I didn't read it out loud for the class, but I decided that it was good enough to show all of you, so...
The Love Song of Francis L. Bonnefoy
L'amour est quelque chose qui ne devrait pas être imposée à d'autres
Let us go, you and I,
When the stars are in the sky
Like a painting by Van Gogh;
Let us walk the city streets,
Whistling a tune on the beats.
With you is where my heart lies,
And like the baby who cries,
I depend on you to know,
How much I love you so.
I see the way they look at me,
With their disgusted eyes.
And scowling faces,
But they don't understand,
The way you do.
So, I depend on you to know,
How much I love you so.
If you have not read the original by Elliot, then shame on you! Can you tell where I got my inspiration from?
